Acer and
Intel announced a new Android handset in Thailand yesterday named the
Liquid C1, which will house the low power Intel Atom Z2420 chipset. This
is the first phone to sport the latest chipset codenamed Lexington
which was announced at this year’s CES. The Atom Z2420 sports a
single-core processor with support for Hyper-Threading, thereby giving
two logical cores, running at 1.2GHz.
The Acer Liquid C1 is a 4.3-inch
smartphone having an IPS LCD screen with qHD resolution of 960x540
pixels, equalling a pixel density of 256 ppi. It sports an 8MP rear
camera and a VGA front-facing camera and comes with Android 4.0 Ice
Cream Sandwich operating system. The Atom Z2420 chipset allows
hardware-accelerated 1080p HD encoding as well as decoding, and lets the
Liquid C1 shoot a maximum of 5 frames per second in burst mode.
The Liquid C1 is expected to launch in
Thailand first followed by launches in other South Asian countries this
month. It is priced at 9,990 Thai Baht which equals approximately Rs.
17,800. At this price point, it will be quite a task to sell the C1 in
India taking its specifications into consideration. But we shall wait
for the Indian launch and pricing.
Earlier reports indicate that Lava will soon be launching a budget smartphone with the same Intel Atom Z2420 chipset, called the Xolo X500.
A much more low-end device, it is expected to be priced at Rs. 8,999,
and feature 512MB of RAM, 4GB built-in storage, and a 3.5-inch (480x320
pixel) display alongside.
