San Francisco’s Solar-Powered Wi-Fi Next-Gen Bus Stop:


The San Francisco Muncipal Transportation Agency released its sleek and undulating roofs proto­type bus stops in San Francisco. They planed to install approx 360 new bus stops in San Francisco city by 2013. These bus stops are not just artistic flourish; street shelters are solar panel on top of roof to interactive information panel and power Wi-Fi routers. It gathers energy and save it and send back to network and unused energy power is pumped into city grid. Now San Francisco has change the way of think about simple street shelter ever.
It cost is about $30,000 and it will channel estimated 43,000 kilowatt hours/year in city grid. It built in Wi-Fi routers which helps city to make comprehensive wireless Internet network. The City officials say clearly its contract of installation and maintenance are made with SFMTA. The Shelters LED lights utilize 74.4 watts it is four and half times more effective in comparison to old shelters’ fluorescent lighting which use 336 watts.
