Characterization of the Behavior of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (Civil Project)

In the past decade significant advances have been made in the field of high performance concretes. The next generation of concrete, Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC), exhibits exceptional strength and durability characteristics that make it well suited for use in highway bridge structures.
This material can exhibit compressive strength of 28 ksi, tensile strength of 1.3 ksi, significant tensile toughness, elastic modulus of 7600 ksi, and minimal long-term creep or shrinkage. It can also resist freeze-thaw and scaling conditions with virtually no damage and is nearly impermeable to chloride ions. Prestressed highway bridge girders were cast from this material and tested under flexure and shear loadings. The testing of these AASHTO Type II girders containing no mild steel reinforcement indicated that UHPC, with its internal passive fiber reinforcement, could effectively be used in highway bridge girders. A large suite of material characterization tests was also completed. Based on this research, a basic structural design philosophy for bridge girder design is proposed.

Design Of Under Ground Water Tank Btech Civil Project Report

The Design Of Under Ground Water Tank Btech Civil Project Report is prepared for Civil Engineering course. The underground water tank used to store water, liquid petroleum, and petroleum products and similar liquids. The force analysis of underground water tank about the same irrespective of the chemical nature of the product. Under ground water tank are designed as crack free structures and leakage proof. Reservoirs below the ground level are normally built to store large quantities of water or kind of liquids.

design-of-under-ground-water-tank-btech-civil-project-report
There are various types of underground water tanks describe in this report which are purification tanks, septic tanks, and gasholders. The design principle of underground tank is same as for tanks are subjected to internal water pressure and outside earth pressure. The base is subjected to weight of water and soil pressure. These tanks may be covered at the top. Whenever there is a possibility of water table to rise, soil becomes saturated and earth pressure exerted by saturated soil should be taken into consideration. The report contains about the details about Gyanganga society which is a residential society constructed by Goel Ganga Developers formally known as Goel Ganga private limited.

Conclusion:

The report explains about the Water storage in the form of deposits for drinking and washing purposes, the pools are becoming increasingly important for exercise and enjoyment, and sewage sedimentation tanks importance in modern life. For small capacities the rectangular water tanks preferred, while capacities we for large circular tanks supplied with water. Especially in the design of ground water tank includes a set of mathematical formulas and calculations. It is also long. Therefore, the program gives a solution in the above-mentioned problems. There is a little difference between the design values of program to that of manual calculation. The program gives the least value for the design. Hence designer should not provide less than the values we get from the program. In case of theoretical calculation designer initially add some extra values to the obtained values to be in safer side.

Facebook phone rumours resurface with new HTC Myst handset
The long0rumoured Facebook phone may be on the cusp of actually existing after specifications for a new HTC handset, branded 'Myst' were leaked on the Web. The Myst, while manufactured by HTC, is also rumoured to carry the Facebook branding and its Android OS will feature complete integration with the social networking giant.
The blog, Android Guys, reports that the HTC Myst will be run on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) and will be powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, an Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM. The Myst will also offer 16GB of internal storage and will feature a 4.3-in 720p HD display. The Myst will have both a front camera and a 5MP rear camera, and will support all modern connectivity standards including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The handset could also feature a dedicated Facebook button that immediately brings up the app.
This isn't the first time that HTC has introduced a phone with a focus on Facebook. In early 2011, HTC launched the ChaCha, an Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) handset with a QWERTY keypad and a dedicated Facebook button. Unfortunately, the ChaCha received middling reviews and didn't exactly set the market on fire. Hopefully, the Myst will be a more successful partnership between HTC and Facebook.

Nokia Lumia 1000 flagship appears online, expected at MWC 2013

Leaked information on the Internet suggests that Nokia is working on another flagship Lumia device, the Lumia 1000, expected to be unveiled at MWC 2013 along with the rumoured Lumia 720 and 520.
Nokia Lumia 1000 flagship appears online, expected at MWC 2013
The Nokia Lumia 1000 has been spotted on a Chinese-carrier, China Mobile’s website. No other information is known about the device except the model number. Judging by the history of smartphones launched by Nokia, this may just be the next flagship Windows Phone 8 device from Nokia.
Rumour mills were hard at work suggesting that Nokia is working on the next flagship Lumia device that will house the 41MP PureView camera found on the Nokia 808 PureView. In the past we have heard that that Nokia was working on a device codenamed EOS that is expected to have the same 41-megapixel PureView camera. You can read details of that story here.
Information circulating the internet also suggests that the device will be unveiled at MWC 2013 along with the rumoured Nokia Lumia 720 and 520, two devices that were also featured in the same round or rumours - the Lumia 720 is expected to be another mid-range (WP8) device, and the Lumia 520 another budget (probably WP7.8) device.
All the rumours will be put to rest once the Mobile World Congress kicks off on February 25, 2013.

Aircel launches 'free calling with data usage' plan; rivals unperturbed

Aircel has introduced a new plan, which allows users to have free local calling minutes with data usages. Report suggest other operators are not threatened by Aircel's new manoeuvre.
Aircel launches 'free calling with data usage' plan; rivals unperturbed
Even as telecom operators are looking to raise call and data tariffs to improve margins, Aircel has introduced a new plan called 'Surf to talk free', which offers free calling with data usage. The new plan is aimed at expanding the operators' market share and increasing revenues. Aircel's new plan, however, is unlikely to prompt other operators to come up with similar plans or discounted plans.
Aircel is offering 10 minutes of local calls free on consumption of 1MB or more of data. Users can avail the free calling everyday. Aircel's chief marketing officer Anupam Vasudevan says the subscribers will be benefited from the scheme. "It is not discounting, it is actually giving the customer extra," Vasudevan is quoted as saying, while explaining reason behind aiming higher revenue rather than the per second profitability.
Aircel's new plan may look attractive, but there's a catch. As The Mobile Indian points out Aircel is offering free calling when users are using data at the base rate and is not part of any pack.
Also, the base rate charged by Aircel is 10 paisa per 10KB for 2G and 3G data, therefore subscribers have to shell out Rs. 10 on consuming 1MB of data. To know more about Aircel's 'Surf to Talk free' plan, click here.
Economic Times in its report says the rivals don't consider Aircel's plan a potential threat. The report quotes a competitor as saying the GSM technology network, deployed by the most operators in the country, is not compatible with data consumption. Companies make Rs. 0.35-0.50 per minute for voice whereas operators make Rs 0.06-0.07 from the similar capacity consumption at current data rates.
According to Gartner's research director, Kamlesh Bhatia, such plan on LTE or 4G would be more “disruptive”, as the main usage of the network is data. "A plan like this will affect call rates across the industry if rolled out by an LTE player because you (existing GSM players) will lose a chunk of high telephone service users."
Reliance Industries (RIL) is planning to provide a free voice connection along with a data connection on the LTE network, but the company is yet to officially announce 4G in the country. "The only thing to worry about is RIL saying that it will reduce data prices to a sixth, but even they would know that cannot lead them to profitability," a competitor is quoted as saying.
Aircel's new plan comes at a time when other operators are raising voice and data tariffs in a bid to cover inflating costs. Recently, telecom major Airtel and Idea Cellular raised their tariffs. Aircel, on the other hand, has been going against the stream. The operator recently launched a new tariff plan that makes roaming across voice, SMS and data services free.
Called the 'One Nation, One Rate' plan, subscribers will pay 1 paisa per second for both STD and local calls in their home circles, as well as on roaming. For local and STD SMSes, the operator will charge Re 1. Incoming will be free. Read more about Aircel's One Nation, One Rate plan here.

Teledensity in India dips to 73.34 percent; telcos lose 26 mln subscribers: TRAI

Mobile operators lost 26 mln subscribers at the end of December 2012, mainly due to large scale disconnections of inactive SIMs.
Teledensity in India dips to 73.34 percent; telcos lose 26 mln subscribers: TRAI
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its latest telecom subscription data, which reveals the number of telephone subscribers in India has seen a negative growth of 2.82 percent, slumping to 895.51 million at the end of December 2012, down from 921.47 million at the end of November 2012. Overall teledensity in the country has decreased to 73.34 percent, from 75.55 registered previous month.
The negative growth was also seen in the wireless subscribers base. According to the TRAI report, total wireless subscribers base has decreased from 890.60 million in November 2012 to 864.72 million at the end of December 2012, registering a monthly growth of –2.91 percent.
“This decline is majorly due to large scale disconnections of inactive SIMs by some of the service providers. The share of urban wireless subscribers has decreased from 62.19 percent to 61.65 percent where as share of rural wireless subscribers has increased from 37.81 percent to 38.35 percent. The overall wireless teledensity in India has reached 70.82,” says the regulator in its report.
Check out the telecom operators' market share in the graphical form below:
The TRAI report also illustrates the status of the Mobile Number Portability requests in the country. Citing the data reported by the service providers, by December 2012 end, about 80.06 million subscribers have submitted their requests to different service providers for porting their number. Rajasthan saw the maximum number of portability requests (7.59 million) from the MNP Zone-I (Northern and Western India), while Karnataka received the maximum number of requests ( 9.90 million) in MNP Zone-II, which covers Souther and Eastern regions.
The status of MNP requests in various service areas is given below:

Latest Steam survey reveals popularity of Intel, Nvidia among PC gamers

Survey reveals continuing popularity of Windows 7, ubiquity of Intel on-board graphics solutions.

Latest Steam survey reveals popularity of Intel, Nvidia among PC gamers
Valve, the company behind Steam, the popular gaming client and digital distribution service for PCs, has revealed the results of its January 2013 global hardware survey. According to the survey, the most popular operating system in use among PC gamers (using Steam) still remains Windows 7 (64-bit) and a vast majority of PC users rely on Intel processors and Nvidia's GeForce graphics cards.
While Valve hasn't revealed the total number of respondents to its survey, looking at the more than 56 million people that make up Steam's active user-base, it would be fair to say that the survey results are fairly accurate in representing the hardware configuration of the average PC gamer.
The survey results show that with regard to operating systems, a massive 55.55% of PC gamers run Windows 7 (64-bit), while Intel also has an iron vice grip over the processor market with a 73.11% user-share. For graphics cards, Intel's on-board HD 3000 graphics chip is the most widely used at 3.69%, while Nvidia's GeForce GTX 560 Ti is the most popular dedicated graphics card at 2.83%.
Here are some more interesting results from the survey:
Most popular operating systems:
  • Windows 7 (64-bit): 55.55%
  • Windows 7 (32- bit): 14.18%
  • Windows XP (32-bit): 9.66%
  • Windows 8 (64-bit): 8.04%
Most popular processor vendors (for Windows users):
  • Intel: 73.11%
  • AMD: 26.88%
Most popular video cards:
  • Intel HD 3000: 4.27%
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti: 2.73%
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti: 2.42%
  • The highest ranked AMD Radeon card is the HD 5770 at eighth place with 1.71% of users
Other components:
  • Most popular RAM set up: 4 GB (22.21%)
  • Most popular processor set-up: Dual-core (48.78%)
  • Most popular single monitor resolution: 1920×1080 pixels (28.9%)
  • Most popular multi-display resolution: 3840×1080 pixels ( 19.64%)
  • Most popular hard drive capacity: 250GB to 499GB (34.86%)
Now, even though Windows 8 doesn't have a very high number of users right now, the good news for Microsoft is that the survey shows that Windows 8 increased its user-base by almost 2% in a month. Also noteworthy is Ubuntu 12.10's (64-bit) showing as the most popular open-source OS with 0.44% user share while Apple's Mac OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion (64-bit) also has a healthy 1.88% share of users. The incongruity of seeing the Intel HD 3000 as the most common graphics solution can be explained by the fact that there are plenty of PC users out there who still manage to eke out a basic level of gaming on their laptops.

Jiayu G4, an HD quad-core phone on Mediatek MT6589 arriving for Rs. 9,000?

The face of the Indian budget Android smartphone market might change overnight, with the launch of Jiayu's lineup in India.
Jiayu G4, an HD quad-core phone on Mediatek MT6589 arriving for Rs. 9,000?

It looks like everyone wants to cash in on the budget smartphone market in India. Chinese manufacturer Jiayu reportedly plans to launch three smartphones in India priced at Rs. 3,000, Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 9,000 for an entry level, dual-core and quad-core smartphone respectively.
No details are available for the specifications of the entry-level or the dual-core phone but information about the quad-core phone (Jiayu G4 and Jiayu G4 Basic) is available and the device looks quite interesting.
The Jiayu G4 Basic boasts of dual-SIM capabilities along with dual standby capabilities, 2G GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz and 3G WCDMA 2100MHz. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean straight out of the box. Under the hood, a 1.2GHz Mediatek MTK6589 Cortex A7 quad-core processor, along with PowerVR SGX 544 GPU and 1GB of RAM, powers the device.

The G4 has a 4.7-inch IPS display with a 1280x720 pixel resolution giving it a pixel density of 312ppi. The quad-core Jaiyu smartphone features a 13MP rear camera with flash, and a 0.3MP front camera for video chatting. It also has 4GB of built-in storage, an 1800mAh battery, and weighs in at 420 grams.
The higher variant of the Jiayu G4 will have 32GB built-in storage, 2GB of RAM and a 3000mAh battery. All the other specifications will be the same as the lower end G4. There is no information about which version of the G4 will launch in India and what is the launch period for the devices.

The video below gives us a first look at the build and design of the Jiayu G4. At the end of the video, in the specifications, it is revealed that there will be two variants of the device.

There are two things that we can notice here. The first is that a quad-core device will be priced at Rs. 9,000. This fact isn’t groundbreaking since we have the Karbonn Smart Titanium 1 that is priced at Rs. 10,990 and boasts of a quad-core processor. What has surprised us the SoC that is powering the Jiayu G4.
The MediaTek MTK6589 powers the Jiayu G4, which is the same SoC that we have seen on the Micromax A116 Canvas HD. You can take an in-depth look at the details of the processor here.

The Micromax A116 Canvas HD features a 5-inch IPS display with a 1280x720 pixel resolution, the same MediaTek MT6589 processor, 1GB of RAM, PowerVR SGX5 GPU, dual-SIM capabilities, 4GB built-in storage expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card, an 8MP rear camera, 0.3MP front camera, and a 2100mAh battery.

What remains to be seen is the performance of the A116 Canvas HD under benchmarks. Micromax during the unveiling of the A116 (read our first impressions) didn’t give a final price tag to the device but did say that the phone would be priced under Rs. 15,000.

The Karbonn Smart Titanium 1 on the other hand has a 4.5-inch qHD (540x960 pixels) display, and most importantly, is powered by 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core CPU based on the MSM8225Q SoC, and Adreno 203 GPU. This is coupled with 1GB of RAM, a 4GB ROM and expandable memory via a microSD card slot. Other specifications include a 1600mAh battery, a 5MP rear-facing camera, and a front camera (presumably VGA) for video calls. Straight out-of-the-box, the phone runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
If the Micromax A116 Canvas HD is priced around Rs. 15,000 then it will face some serious competition from the G4, which will be priced at Rs. 9,000. Notably, the Jiayu’s 13MP camera is a big distinction between the devices, though we know megapixel count is not any assurance for image quality.
Quad-core budget smartphones have been announced in India. What remains to be seen is which one of them takes the first movers advantage and releases their device in India.

Next Google Nexus tablet to replace Nvidia Tegra with Qualcomm Snapdragon?

Market analyst also predicts new Nexus tablet will ship in Q2 2013 and sell close to 10 million units.
Next Google Nexus tablet to replace Nvidia Tegra with Qualcomm Snapdragon?

The next version of the 7-inch Google Nexus Tablet will in all likelihood be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor rather than an Nvidia Tegra 4 chip, even though the current Nexus 7 is powered by a Tegra 3 chip. According to a memo by market analyst, Michael McConnell, the Nexus 7 will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8064 (S4 Pro) chipset and will ship in second quarter of 2013.
While talking to financial news website Barron's, McConnell explains that Google decided to go ahead with the shift to Qualcomm because of “competitive pricing” and more efficient integration between the actual processor and the built-in 3G/4G modem. Evan Wilson, an analyst who follows Google, predicts that Google will manage to sell 10 million units of the next Nexus 7 by the time 2014 rolls in.
Images of what is supposed to be a budget version of the 7-inch Nexus tablet have already leaked on the Web. Asus is expected to manufacture the device and sell it for $99 (Rs. 5,300 approx.). The budget tablet is rumoured to be powered by a VIA processor, 1GB of RAM and will sport a 7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels.

Cybercriminals set their sights on gamers: Kaspersky Lab

A new report indicates gamers are one of the most targetted demographics by cyber-criminals.
Cybercriminals set their sights on gamers: Kaspersky Lab
Kaspersky Lab's latest report on internet security finds that gamers are amongst the highest affected web users, with over 7,000 infection attempts per day targetting them in  2012. There are several methodologies used by the cyber-criminals and scam artists, from phishing to direct browser-based attacks. You can read the report in its entirety below:
According to data from KSN*, Kaspersky Lab experts recorded 7,000 attempts to infect gamers around the world every day in 2012. These attacks are launched in an attempt to gain access to personal user data, such as passwords to online games and online banking systems. Where games are concerned, malicious users attempt to steal avatars and in-game items to subsequently sell these virtual goods for real money. In the case of online banking, cybercriminals aim to steal money directly from real bank accounts.

As Kaspersky Lab experts discovered, in order to do this, malicious users send an average of 10 emails with malicious links and attachments to gamers every day, in addition to making roughly 500 attempts to infect gamers via browser-based attacks. What’s more, the company’s “collection” of malicious programs targeting online games is increasing at a rate of 5,000 new programs a day.
One of malicious users’ most favored tactics in the world of online games is, of course, social engineering — phishing in particular. For example, cybercriminals invoke the names of well-known gaming worlds and desperately try to lure gamers to their fake websites in order to harvest passwords from registered gaming accounts. In 2012, Kaspersky Lab experts recorded 15 million attempted visits to phishing websites designed to look like the pages of one of the largest developers of online games. As it turns out, there were up to 50,000 attempted redirects to phishing sites each day. Fortunately, all of these trusting users were saved by the professional anti-phishing system built into Kaspersky Internet Security, which promptly detected the threat.
Threats targeting gamers are found all over the world but are, of course, not found in equal concentrations everywhere as their numbers are in direct correlation to the number of active players found in different countries. In 2012, the top 3 unlucky targeted countries turned out to be Russia, China, and India. These are the countries were gamers face the highest risk of infection and subsequent theft of avatars and in-game valuables. We also hasten to note that this list of “leaders” has remained more or less unchanged over several years, and there is, unfortunately, no reason to expect malicious users to lessen their interest in this area.
Nevertheless, it is entirely possible to protect oneself and one’s in-game alter-ego against attacks from cybercriminals. At first glance, expert recommendations appear to be obvious, although in practice they have proven to be effective time and again. Kaspersky Lab’s malware expert Sergey Golovanov suggests that gamers adhere to the following simple code of Internet conduct:
“First and foremost, one needs to be alert when receiving emails featuring, for example, a request from an online game’s admin server for personal information about your account or an authorization offer under some pretext. Don’t just click on the link right away - it could be a phishing site.
“Next, don’t download unofficial patches from dubious sources — you could easily end up downloading a ‘bonus’ in the form of a Trojan that would then infiltrate your system and start stealing all of your passwords. And I don’t mean just for online games, but also for bank cards, if your bank offers online services. With this in mind, gamers might consider keeping an up-to-date virtual debit card that lets them limit their spending to an amount they choose – with no risk of someone else cleaning out their account.”
All the same, malicious users are just that, and some of them can outsmart even the most cautious user. That is why experts strongly recommend using professional security solutions. For example, Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 contains the most up-to-date technologies available today for detecting and blocking malicious programs — particularly anti-phishing, automatic security against exploits, a virtual keyboard for entering usernames and passwords, and many other functions. Furthermore, it includes a special gaming mode that will run with minimal interference or burden on your system resources and will turn off notifications as soon as the game is launched.
*This data is gathered with the consent of participants in the Kaspersky Security Network (KSN), which brings together millions of users of Kaspersky Lab products around the world. KSN automatically collects information about infection attempts or attempted downloads and launch of suspicious files on user computers. This data is collected with the consent of users and is confidential. This data is subsequently used for analysis using Kaspersky Lab’s central servers.

'PokerAgent' Trojan botnet designed to harvest Facebook credentials: ESET

The Trojan collected information on credit card details linked to the Facebook account and popular Zynga Poker player stats.
'PokerAgent' Trojan botnet designed to harvest Facebook credentials: ESET
ESET claims in 2012 it had uncovered a Trojan malware that steals login details of Facebook users, called PokerAgent. The Trojan botnet also collected associated credit card information. Check out the security research firm’s full report, below:

ESET, the leader in proactive protection against Internet threats, discovered the ‘PokerAgent’ botnet that was designed to harvest Facebook log-on credentials, collecting information on credit card details linked to the Facebook account and popular Zynga Poker player stats, presumably with the intention to mug the victims. The Trojan managed to steal the login credentials of more than 16,000 Facebook users in 2012.
ESET Security Research Lab has discovered an attention-grabbing Trojan horse about a year ago. ESET has been detecting the different variants of the Trojan generically as MSIL/Agent.NKY. The malware focused on stealing personal Facebook (FB) login details and linking these with the user statistics of Texas HoldEm Poker, a very popular FB application by Zynga Inc., in case the victim plays this game.
According to data from ESET LiveGrid, a cloud powered real-time protection scanner, precisely 99% of all detections of Trojan were coming from Israel. ESET has contacted Israeli CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) as well as Israeli police in early 2012. During the investigation ESET could not provide any details about this threat publicly and presently this threat has been deactivated.
Zynga Poker is a famous app available on all popular platforms: Zynga.com, iPhone, Facebook, iPad, Android. According to AppData, the application has a monthly share of 35 million active users. Zynga Poker on Facebook is considered to be the most popular online poker platform in India. While analyzing this botnet ESET estimates that the attacker could gain access to a total of 16,194 login credentials.
What was the actual scenario of the attack? The attacker used the Trojan to gain the user’s FB login credentials, his/her score in Texas HoldEm Poker game, as well as information on the amount of credit cards stored in his/her Facebook settings and available to increase the credit in the game of poker.
The game had a functionality that allowed replenishing the chip value using real money by inputting the credit card details or PayPal account. To gain the user’s login credentials, an army of 800 of computers were used – all infected and controlled by the attacker. These machines were executing commands from the C&C (Command&Control) server. The creator of the threat has launched an attack using the login credentials of several FB accounts, which were gained ahead of time.
The infected computers received a command to login into the user’s FB accounts and to gain the user’s Texas HoldEm score, as well as the amount of credit cards stored in his/her FB account. In case of a user w/o a credit card or low score, the infected computer received instructions to infect the victim’s FB profile with a link to a phishing site. This site has acted to directly or indirectly lure the player’s FB friends to a website resembling the FB homepage. In case the login credentials were input by them, they were also harvested by the attacker.
“Analyzing the attack flow, I can say users should be more careful and, initially, more educated. While noticing that Facebook login page is fake may not be possible all the times, especially if the bad guys had designed it well, storing your payment credentials, credit card or PayPal account details into any app on Facebook, smartphone or elsewhere can and should be avoided. Not only Texas HoldEm Poker, but any other Facebook application could have been infected in the same way”, says Pankaj Jain, Director at ESET India.
The number of threats utilizing Facebook is rapidly growing. To counter this trend, ESET has introduced a security application ESET Social Media Scannerwhich is available free of charge and is capable of scanning the user’s profile for the presence of malicious and phishing links. On top of that, the app can detect malicious links on the timeline of user’s Facebook friends.

Project Title : Wavelet Based Image Compression
Based On : VLSI Coding
Category : VLSI Projects

ECE Projects Abstract :

This project explains the components style circulation of raising centered 2-D Forward Discrete Wavelet Transform (FDWT) brand for JPEG 2000. In order to build top quality picture of JPEG 2000 codec, an efficient 2-D FDWT formula has been conducted on input picture file to get the decomposed picture coefficients. The Lifting Program decreases the number of functions performance steps to almost one-half of those needed with a traditional convolution approach.

The LightWave 3D® Group, a division of NewTek, Inc., announced today LightWave 11.5, a powerful new edition of its Emmy® Award-winning 3D modeling, animation and rendering software. A complete 3D pipeline, LightWave 11.5 includes many new features to streamline productivity, including a new Genoma character animation and rigging system for Modeler, predator and prey flocking, Instancing, soft-body Bullet Dynamics, interchange support for Adobe After Effects and Pixologic’s GoZ Fiber Mesh, major workflow enhancements, and more.

“LightWave 11.5 elevates artistic freedom with innovative new features and workflow enhancements that are designed to streamline productivity,” said Rob Powers, president, LightWave 3D Group. “From fast interactive stereoscopic rendering in the VPR to physically accurate hard-body and soft-body Bullet Dynamics, LightWave 11.5 continues to reinforce its leadership position as an end-to-end pipeline.”

LightWave 11.5’s new features and enhancements include:

Genoma

A new modular instant-rigging system that can be used to quickly rig a simple biped or quadruped for animation in Modeler without the need for specialized rigging tools. It offers modular rig presets that consist of skeletal parts such as spines, wings, arms, legs, hands and feet. Complete rigs for biped and quadrupeds can easily be customized using Genoma.

Modeling Tools

New functionality and architectural advancements in Modeler allow for faster interactivity, performance, and tool development. LightWave 11.5 introduces many new tools like UV Unwrap, Edit Edges, Place Mesh, Slice, Thicken and Heat Shrink that emphasize the system’s power and lay the groundwork for future third-party modeling tool development.

Soft-Body Bullet Dynamics

Bullet now includes soft-body dynamics for effects such as cloth, rubber, jelly or other deforming properties. Bullet meshes are also now reactive to bone deformations and wind forces can also be added for rippling effects.

Flocking

A specialized particle system that allows items to move in very organic ways, Flocking offers new prey and predator behaviors that allow flocks to chase other flocks or have flocking agents seek out and chase the closest prey. Neutral flocks do not chase or chase but still affect other agents for collision avoidance. Other new features include Plane, Pursuit and Arrive directors and the addition of node controls.

Interchange Tools

A new GoAE button allows you to select elements in a scene and see them in Adobe After Effects—including animation, lights and camera setting. Changes can be made using Camera Tracker in After Effects before returning to Lightwave. GoZ technology for Pixologic’s ZBrush allows you to send models to and from LightWave with automatic node flows for textures and normal maps. ZBrush styling tools can also be imported to LightWave and attached to objects.

Instancing

Now includes Per-Object control of scale, stretch, offset, rotate and nodal controls, along with new Copy and Paste functions and Path Mode optimizations for greater flexibility and workflow.

ViewPort Preview Renderer (VPR)

VPR transforms how artists work in LightWave with fast interactive onscreen rendering. LightWave 11.5 now supports depth-of-field and motion blur effects and stereoscopic rendering in VPR.
